Local litterbugs have been caught red-handed after papers containing their names and addresses were found amongst dumped rubbish.
On April 16 of this year, the Moorabool Shire Council investigated a site on Diggers Rest Road that had been used as an unpermitted rubbish dump.
A Council officer, who appeared in the Bacchus Marsh Magistrates Court on Friday, stated that a number of documents had been found amongst the garbage and were addressed to either Matthew Carville or Tamara Van Dort.
The officer said both perpetrators were contacted in regards to the incident by post, however despite Australia Post verifying that the letters had been received, there was no response.
While Carville and VanDort both failed to appear in court, Magistrate Robertson was happy to hear the case ex parte.
“I think in this case a significant fine will allow for both general and specific deterrence, the community needs to understand that this behaviour is not tolerated,” she said.
Carville and Van Dort were each fined $1405 with conviction.
